Anne-Sophie Le Rol (violin), Gabriel Richard (violin), Nicolas Carles (viola) and Delphine Biron (cello) who are all musicians with the Orchestre de Paris, will perform three string quartets: Adagio for strings by Samuel Barber (1936), Mishima by Philip Glass, composed for Paul Schrader’s eponymous film (1985), and Maurice Ravel’s String Quartet, which was heavily inspired by American jazz music imported to Europe in the 1920s and influenced by George Gershwin’s improvisations.
Throughout the evening, Nicolas Carles’s commentary* and explanations will accompany the audience in this Franco-American musical dialogue.
